My 1975 Lamborghini Urraco P250 Tipo 111 has left home

After 30+ years of nuturing my 1975 Lamborghini Urraco P250 Tipo 111, I made the difficult decision to part with it. It's not that I grew tired of the car, anything was wrong with it, or I needed the funds for the Miura. It's just that there was an opportunity to get my second favorite dream car: A Maserati Bora. I sorely miss the Urraco - especially after decades of fixing up every little detail. I was very proud of the condition and I'm sure it's one of the best Urracos in the world. I expect it's even better now as I've heard the new owners have decided to repaint my amature work (keeping the same color). I hope I get to see it again. But I am loving the Bora. More on that later.

I'll retain info about the Urraco for posperity. The car is one of 21 Tipo 111's made for the US market. All Tipo 111's had metallic paint, power windows, air conditioning, seat-belt light and warning buzzer, US rubber bumpers, side markers, and smog equipment (missing, but it's legally registered in California). The car has been driven 40,265 miles.

The car has been striped to bare metal and repainted. It was originally a metallic root-beer brown color, however I wanted to change the color because brown is so... brown. After much debate between my personal favorite (yellow, like 1965 Ferrari Gallo Fly) and "For Sale Red" I decided to paint the car yellow. I just couldn't bring myself to create YARIC (Yet Another Red Italian Car). Fortunatly many people have told me I made the right choice, so I'm feeling pretty good about it. And it looks stunning!

Like the Miura project, I'm going to start documenting progress so potential buyers can see how it's coming (and that I'm finally getting off my... chair and doing some work. :-)

Original Color

Here are some pictures of the car when it was brown. The first is at Quail Lodge in Carmel Valley, California, site of the Concours Italiano, at the end of a fun day. It's parked next to its cousin, a Ferrari 308GT4 (I think the Urraco is a better looking car):

And here is my car next to a friend's red Urraco. This photo represents about 10% of the Tipo 111's in the world! I think red looks better than brown, but yellow might look even better. I'd like to hear your opinion.

Here is another shot of the car in my driveway, in San Diego, CA.

The car is in excellent mechanical shape and will look great with its new paint! I'm debating on the interior, which is okay but hardly up to par with the mechanical and cosmetic restortion. The choices are: Do nothing and let the buyer decide, fix up the dash and the seats, or do a full interior. Since I'm selling the car I have to make this an economic decision. Will I get an additional $10k or so with a new interior? I'm doing some research to find out.

I hate to sell it, really, but I want to finish the Miura. It hasn't been driven much in the past five years or so. As soon as the paint dries I'm having it trailored to Bobileff's for a full tune up and new belt. I will also put new tires on the car.
