Nothing much has happened since March - at least nothing visible. The two major remaining areas are the interior and the engine. Parts have been ordered. The block is out being resleeved. Again. Interior pieces are being upholstered. But the interior is not going in, and the engine is not going together. There is progress, however. There are a hundred little details that need to be completed. Smaller parts have been going in and the entire electrical system is being tested and retested.
The rocker panels were restored, painted, and installed.
The taillamp frames were tiged up, painted, and installed.
The knockoffs were finished up, and painted to match the wheels.
I repainted the air horns because I wasn't happy with the red paint that was used by the shop. It wasn't very close to the original, which looked anodized. They were not anodized, since they are not alloy, but this candy-apple red looks much closer.
All the chrome bits came back from the plater, and the window felts were installed.
I rebult the headlamp motors, using new brass gears in place of the original plastic one, which had both broken. I even found Dulcier motor stickers for that extra detail touch. You'd have to look hard to see them in the car, but I know they're there. Note that the baseplates have "127" stamped in them. This number has been found on many parts throughout the car.
The badges were all installed, and the licence plate lamps and housings (which I proudly made of metal, instead of the original fiberglass), and license plate frame were added. These touches really start to make the car look more complete.
All these details are nice to see, although I'm really eager to see the interior go in and the engine assembly begin. I expect the engine will look beautiful. To me, the engine is the star of the car - certainly the heart.
This isn't the latest view of the car, but it's a good side shot showing the rockers installed. Notice the side badges are not installed in this photo.
These completed interior parts are ready to install. I think they are waiting for all the interior parts to be ready, and the carpet to be selected. (I need to see samples to decide.) The door panels were not done the last time I checked. Those with the Coltrin book or the Sackey "Bible" will note that car 127 had a "mustard" interior. I looked at mustard, but really didn't care for the yellow tint in the material. I tried to stay close, with a light tan. It's not exactly "right" but it looks a lot better, IMHO.
More news soon. The car didn't make it to Monterey this year (last August), but I'm really hoping it will be done by the end of the year.
